Southwest Guilford Cowboys go (26-0) and take Piedmont Triad 4-A Tournament Title:Leach goes for 33

For the fourth time this season, the Bison of High Point Central faced off against the Cowboys of Southwest. This time around was for the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference Tournament Championship. The Cowboys came into tonight’s contest 25-0 on the year and looked to add another championship on the year, while the Bison looked to finally knock off their city and conference rival. It was a packed house with both sides of the court filled to the top. From the opening tip it was all Cowboys. Quick striking offense, pressure defense, and hot shooting got the Cowboys up 8-0 by the 4:52 mark. A minute later is was 14-0. A Bison free-throw at the2:50 mark finally got them on the board, and HPC didn’t score a field goal until there was 55 seconds left in the frame. The opening stanza closed at 20-7. The second quarter was played evenly on the scoreboard, but the margin still was in complete control by the Cowboys taking a 37-24 lead headed into the break. The second half was a heavy dose of why the Cowboys are undefeated on the year. Southwest forced several turnovers in a row and pressed on the gas outscoring the Bison 29-14 in the frame, including three straight 3’s by Terrell Leach. The lead ballooned two as many as 37 early in the fourth quarter and the Cowboys cruised to a convincing conclusion to the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference Tournament for the second straight season. It was a great team defensive effort tonight with key contributions from the entire roster, especially Andrew Bullock who held HPC’s Juwan Foggie to 3 points on the night. High Point Central was led by Ahmad Langham’s 20 points. The Cowboys were paced by Terrell Leach (33, 13 Reb, 3 Ast), DJ Chamblee (13, 2 Reb, 2 Ast), and Michael Bryant (11, 8 Reb).
