Greensboro College Men’s Basketball Rolls into USA South Championship Game

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) — The #3 seed Pride men’s basketball team earned its tenth straight victory on Friday night, beating #2 seed Ferrum 98-82 in the USA South semifinals in Fayetteville, NC. With the win, Greensboro advances to the title game on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. against #1 seed Christopher Newport.

The Pride shot lights out from the field, connecting on 52.1% of their field goal opportunities, including a 13-23 mark from three.

Greensboro trailed early 17-9 but used a 19-5 run to go ahead 28-22 at the 9:40 point. The game would remain close for the remainder of the first half, with The Pride clinging to a 44-42 advantage at the break.

Greensboro picked up some steam in the opening minutes of the second half, going ahead 58-50. After the Panthers closed to within 60-57, The Pride went on a 14-2 spurt to blow the game open at 74-59.

The margin grew to 20 points at 89-69 with 5:37 left in the game. The Pride closed in on the century mark late but finished the contest out with a 98-82 win.

Brian Thomas led six Greensboro players in double figures with 17 points. Luqman Tijani finished with 16. Devonta Davis, Damian Dixon and Chakiris Moss added 14, whileTracy Jester contributed ten. Donald Anderson also scored nine points, just missing being the seventh player with double digits in scoring.

The Pride forced 17 turnovers for the day with Thomas and Tijani recording a team high three steals apiece.

In addition to its ten game win streak, Greensboro has won 12 of its past 13. The Pride split the season series with the Captains, highlighted by a 72-69 road victory on February 2.
