College Baseball Finals—-Guilford 8–2, Case Western 11–0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Borja-Jones Berasaluce and Chad Wagoner (Archdale, N.C./Trinity) combined for a game two shutout, leading Guilford College to a doubleheader split of Case Western Reserve University Sunday afternoon. Robert Winemiller and Andrew Frey led the Spartans (2-1) to an 11-8 victory while the Quakers (4-5) won the nightcap 2-0.

Both teams played scoreless baseball for the first six innings until Corey Wallace launched a solo home run over the right center field fence to put the Quakers on the board, earning his second RBI of the afternoon. The Quakers would add an insurance run in the eighth thanks to a Justin Pittman (Archdale, N.C./Trinity) single to center field for his third RBI of the doubleheader. Jones-Berasaluce (1-1) threw eight innings of shutout work scattering nine hits, striking out one, and walking none in his first win of the season.

Chad Wagoner came in to the throw the ninth inning and held off a Spartan rally, inducing a fly ball to Winemiller then striking out Frey swinging to earn his first save of the season.

In a game one, the Quakers and Spartans traded runs through the first four innings before the Spartans took a 3-2 lead in the fifth. The Quakers countered with six runs of their own in the seventh, beginning with a John Macon Smith (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford) double to right center field. Pittman added another RBI-double later in the inning while Gabe Mirabelli topped off the Quaker rally with an RBI-single, giving the Quakers a four-run lead. The Spartans then countered with seven runs in the eighth, securing the game one win. Winemiller and Frey led the Spartans with two runs batted in a piece in the first contest.

The Quakers return to action Wednesday when Guilford hosts Immaculata for a 2:30 p.m. first pitch.
