GC Softball Blasts Wilson for 8-1 Victory on Sunday

The Greensboro College softball team cruised to an 8-1 victory over Wilson on Sunday in the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, NC.

The Pride took a 2-0 lead with a single run in the first and second innings. Alex Wickham singled in the first and scored on an error by the shortstop. Wickham padded the lead in the second with an RBI double to bring home Kirstin Mckenna.

Greensboro would break the game open in the fourth with four runs. The inning was highlighted by an RBI double by Wickham, who would also score on the play following a throwing error by the right fielder.

After Wilson found the scoreboard in the fifth with a run, The Pride would answer with two runs in the sixth. Jackie Nicholson plated both runs with a double to left center to extend the advantage to 8-1.

Greensboro finished the game with 14 hits. Wickham led the attack with four hits, three runs and two RBI. Nicholson and Mckenna both added three hits, while Chelsea Brewer contributed two.

Shelby Drummonds earned the win, working 4.2 innings with two hits, six strike outs and one earned run.

The Pride improve to 2-3 overall on the season. Greensboro will be back at home on Wednesday for a doubleheader against cross town rival Guilford. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club Field in Greensboro, NC.
