Media release from New Garden Friends coach Dave Secor on the passing of Josh Level

The sudden and tragic passing of Josh Level a week ago during a basketball game between New Garden Friends and Quality Education shook not only the New Garden Friends School community but also all of Greensboro and indeed the state. There is nothing that prepares us for this…a young life cut short, the loss of a son, brother, friend, classmate, teammate.

When the word first came to us at New Garden Friends School that Josh Level was enrolling as a student there was a great deal of excitement among the basketball team. Everyone was well aware of Josh Level the very talented basketball player. The anticipation of what might be was growing and being immediately realized as Josh blended perfectly with his new teammates.

What we all immediately learned was that Josh Level, the 17 year old high school junior, was an equally remarkable young man. In his short time with us he became not only a key member of the Bears basketball team, but also a well liked member of the entire school community. With his unassuming way and sense of humor, he easily became one of the community, which made him happy.

For the record, last Tuesday evening was another typical performance for Josh. He was leading his team in scoring, rebounding and steals. He had just connected on back to back three pointers……

We all will miss this fine young man who graced our campus and our basketball court. Thanks to all who have sent well wishes…Please keep Josh and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
