GREENSBORO, N.C. – D.J. Phillips and Corey Wallace tallied three RBI apiece in Guilford’s 11-5 nonconference home win against Immaculata University Wednesday.
The Quakers improved to 5-5 with the win. Phillips’ three-run homer in the fourth inning put Guilford up 5-0. The Mighty Macs countered with two runs in the fifth inning. The Quakers led 11-3 heading into the ninth. Immaculata scored two more in its final at-bat, but was unable to recover from the eight-run deficit.
Phillips and Wallace each had two runs to accompany their game-high three RBI. Justin Pittman also scored two. Casey Mann’s triple in the bottom of the second led to one of his two runs. Lou Trosch (1-0) earned his first win with five solid innings on the mound.
Matt Lawson and Elijah Vottero led the Mighty Macs (1-4) with one run and one RBI apiece. Matt Hardy, Immaculata’s top returning batter, was held to one RBI. Andrew Dietrich (0-2) took the loss.
The Quakers begin Old Dominion Athletic Conference play at noon on Saturday, Mar. 2 in a twinbill against Virginia Wesleyan College at McBane Field.
