Greensboro College Women’s Lacrosse Dealt 21-7 Setback to Guilford

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The Pride women’s lacrosse team (0-3 overall) hung tough early against Guilford (2-1 overall), but fell in the end by a final count of 21-7.

Greensboro led 3:12 into the game following an unassisted goal by Brittany Ziobro. The Quakers answered with two straight goals to grab their first lead before Alexa Besch knotted the score at 2-2 with 22:11 to go in the first half.

Guilford went back in front 4-2 until Besch found the net again with a solo goal at the 19:53 point. The Quakers began to add separation, putting five unanswered goals on the board to go extend the lead to 8-3.

Kirstin Norris scored for The Pride with 3:59 left in the half to cut the gap to 8-4. The momentum was brief as Guilford finished the half with three goals to head into the break leading 12-4.

The teams would trade the first six goals of the second half, with the Quakers holding a 15-7 edge with 21:26 to play. Guilford would take full control from there, scoring the final six goals of the game to pull away for the 21-7 victory.

The Quakers held a 36-14 in total shots and picked up 18 ground balls comapred to 12 for Greensboro. Guilford also won 20 of the 30 draw controls and committed eight less turnovers then The Pride.

Norris recorded a team high three goals to lead Greensboro. She also led the team in draw controls with five and caused turnovers with two. Ziobro dished out a team best two assists. Kaleigh Hemstock made nine saves, while taking the loss in net.

The Pride will be back at home on Sunday against Adrian. Game time is set for 1 p.m. on Pride Field.
