GREENSBORO, N.C. – Nationally ranked Washington and Lee University defeated Guilford College, 9-0, Saturday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) math at Guilford’s McMichael Centennial Class Courts. Ranked 22nd in the Feb. 28 Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Division III Men’s National Rankings, the Generals (5-2, 3-0 ODAC) ended Guilford’s three-match winning streak.
The Generals’ Hayden White, ranked 12th in the ITA’s Division III Men’s National Rankings, claimed a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the Quakers’ Turner Votipka at first singles. White and Christopher Hu, the South Atlantic region’s 15th-ranked doubles tandem, blanked Votipka and Mark Cheong at second doubles, 8-0.
Washington and Lee’s number-one doubles team of Taylor Shamshiri and Michael Holt stopped Guilford’s Trevor Cox and Erik Meiler, 8-2. The Generals’ pair is ranked ninth in the region.
Guilford visits NCAA Division I Liberty University Sunday (3/3).
