College Track & Field Results – Guilford Opens at PowerSox Invitational

HICKORY, N.C.—Chad Norton picked up Guilford College’s first event victory of the outdoor track and field season as the Quaker men and women opened the 2013 outdoor season at the PowerSox Invitational, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University. Guilford was one of two Division III schools participating in the event amongst a Division II field.

Norton won the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:50.38, winning the event by 27.8 seconds. The time breaks his personal-best by 13.92 seconds. Norton also placed eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:01.17.

Andris Goncarovs (4:29.34) and David Cason (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) (4:29.37) crossed the finish line almost simultaneously in the mile run with Goncarovs taking fifth and Cason finishing sixth.

Joshua Farrar (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) (52.21 seconds) placed 10th in the 400 meter run.

Guilford’s 4×400 meter relay team consisting of Farrar, Matthew McKeown, Norton, and Cason finished sixth with a time of 3:41.93, the best Division III time.

Jennifer Thomas (Randleman, N.C./Randleman) set new school records in the 100 meter dash (13.95 seconds) and the 200 meter dash (29.61 seconds). Thomas’s 200 meter time was the second best Division III mark.

Rachel Flint set the school-best mark in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:09.85, beating the previous mark by 3.12 seconds.

Rebecca Reyna (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) (2:37.00) took seventh in the 800 meter run. Her time marked the third best finish in school history.

The 4×400 meter relay team of Flint, Pasangi Perera, Reyna, and Emily Cash took eighth with a time of 4:42.35.

Guilford returns to the track March 15 and 16 when the Quakers compete at the Wake Forest Open.
