Elon’s Watson Selected SoCon Women’s Softball Player of the Month

ELON, N.C. – Elon softball outfielder Tomeka Watson was named the Southern Conference Softball’s Player of the Month for February, the league office announced on Monday, March 4. This is the first time that Watson has been honored with the SoCon Player of the Month award.

The senior from Jackson, Ga., led the league in a number of offensive categories in February, including batting average (.514), home runs (seven), runs scored (16), RBI (14), total bases (43) and stolen bases (6-for-6). Watson had seven multi-hit games – including six straight – and hit safely in nine of Elon’s 11 contests.

Watson became the program’s all-time career home run leader on Feb. 24, against Hampton with her 27th career home run and had a streak of a home run in six consecutive contests. Watson was also instrumental in helping Elon defeat No. 8 Georgia at the Red and Black Showcase on Feb. 8, where she went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a home run in the 5-2 upset of the Bulldogs.

Elon returns to play at Charlotte on Wednesday, March 6 in a doubleheader with the 49ers. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
