Carolina Day up early 8-1 and then in the middle innings Caldwell battled back and really made a game of it…Clay Young is back out there for Caldwell this season and he had a very good year last year and should be very steady again this season/year….In their last at bat, Caldwell was down by the three runs and they hit the ball hard three times and three right at someone, with the fly ball to center, a bender on a line to right-center field and the final out came on a ball hit right back to the pitcher, Milo, for Carolina Day…Milo and the catcher, both impressive for Carolina Day…
Season-opener for Caldwell Academy and Caldwell will be OK, as long as they listen to what Coach Dan Bozarth has to say….

+++++A little more info on Cole Aker, the Northwest Guilford winning pitcher tonight at Graham:
Aker better be good, his grandfather Jack was a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves back in the day and I(Andy) saw when he was managing the Lynchburg Mets, back in 1978, up in Virginia….(Carolina League Champs with Ron Gardenhire, Wally Backman, Jeff Reardon and others…Those were good days and good baseball with Jack Aker and the L-Mets.)+++++

  1. East Davidson – 4
    Southern Guilford – 3

Game went extra innings — great effort by the Storm!

  2. Very nice setting for baseball at Caldwell Academy….Fun watching those airplanes come in toward the airport runways during the games and especially at night….Those planes look like cars headed down the ‘highway in the sky’….

  3. Correction to last night’s score…

    NW Guilford: 10
    Graham: 6

Graham put 1 more run up in the last inning than I remembered.

  4. Reply to Andy Durham says:: Aker’s dad is the coach at Greensboro College and played at Ole Miss himself. Deep blood lines…cousin played at South Carolina during their world series runs and now plays in the Royals farm system.
