Elon Women’s Basketball’s Evans Tabbed SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon women’s basketball’s Kelsey Evans has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for games through March 5, the league office announced today. This marks her second honor of the season. She was named the SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week on Jan. 9.

Evans led the team last week with 21.5 points per game in contests against Davidson and Georgia Southern. The senior shot 74 percent from the field after connecting on 20-of-27 shots. The Raleigh, N.C., native also shot 75 percent from the charity stripe (3-of-4), posted 10 rebounds and recorded five blocks (2.5/game).

She scored a career-high 31 points at Georgia Southern with another career high of 14 field goals (14-of-17). It marked an individual season high for the Phoenix and was the most points by an Elon player since March 17, 2011. In Elon’s win over Davidson, Evans went 6-of-10 from the field and scored 12 points.

Elon’s next game will be in the second round of the SoCon Tournament on Saturday, March 9, in Asheville, N.C. The Phoenix will play either Samford or Wofford in a 6:45 p.m. tip in Kimmel Arena on the campus of UNC Asheville.
