HPU Men’s Golf Finishes Sixth at Charleston Shootout

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The High Point University men’s golf team shot a collective 899 and finished sixth out of 12 teams at the 2013 Charleston Shootout in Hollywood, S.C. Senior Chase Wilson finished tied for fourth at the 54-hole tournament with a two-day score of 217.

Wilson shot a one-under 71 in the third round on Tuesday to lead the Panthers. He carded a 73 in each of the first two rounds to finish tied for fourth with Leon Fricker from Bethune-Cookman and Adam Gions from USC Upstate.

Sophomore Charles Valluzzo also picked up a top-20 finish with a three-round score of 223 (73-76-74). He finished tied for 19th with two Charleston Southern players, Nicolas Baena and Ross Thompson.

USC Upstate won the tournament with an overall score of 881. Sam Houston State finished second and Bethune-Cookman placed third. Big South foe, Charleston Southern took fourth place with a three-day score of 894 and Fairleigh Dickinson finished in fifth, one stroke ahead of HPU.

Easton Renwick of Coastal Carolina won playoff for the individual title on the third playoff hole. He finished the tournament tied with Clemson’s Hayden Garrett and College of Charleston’s John Duke Hudson with a score of 216.

Freshman McKay Tye tied his career-low round with a 70 in the second round of the Charleston Shootout. He finished the tournament tied for 26th with a total score of 225 (77-70-78).

Senior Brian Sullivan also shot a career-low round with a 75 in the second round of the tournament. He shot 235 (79-75-81) for the tournament to finish in a tie for 57th overall.

Sophomore LJ Georgetti rounded out HPU’s competitors with a 255, improving every round of the tournament (90-85-80).

HPU will next compete in the Bash at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on March 10-12
