Elon Women’s Basketball Takes on Wildcats in SoCon Semifinals

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Elon women’s basketball team (18-12) will play the Davidson Wildcats (20-11) in the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament today, March 10, at 2:30 p.m.

Last Time Out
Elon claimed a 70-60 win over Samford in its first game of the SoCon Tournament. The Phoenix took as much as a 15-point lead before securing the win at the free throw line. Ali Ford led all players with 17 points and seven assists. Kelsey Evans and Kelsey Harris also scored in double figures with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Harris and Sam Coffer each pulled down a team-high seven boards.

Elon vs. Davidson
The Phoenix and the Wildcats split the regular-season series this year with both teams winning on its home court. The two teams met just eight days ago in Alumni Gym where the maroon and gold claimed a 72-56 victory with the help of 23 points from Ali Ford. Ford is averaging 23 points against Davidson this season and Sam Coffer posted 11 points per game. As a team, Elon is shooting 41 percent from the field, 40 percent from long distance and 88 percent from the charity stripe when playing the Wildcats this season.

Last Four Games

Elon is on a four game winning streak and is averaging 73.2 points per game with a 13.5 margin of victory. Kelsey Evans has been unstoppable, posting 19 points and 1.5 blocks per game along with a shooting percentage of 71.4. Ali Ford has also averaged in double figures in the last four games with 17 points per game and 3.75 assists/game. From long distance, Zora Stephenson has connected on 7-of-15 threes for a 46.7 shooting mark.

If Elon wins the semifinal game against Davidson, the Phoenix will face the winner of the Chattanooga/Appalachian State on Monday, March 11, at 3 p.m. in the U.S. Cellular Center.
