Rockingham Community College Baseball off to Solid Start with Adam Gunn(Eastern Guilford), John Robertson(EG), Tommy King(GDS) and Houston Ison(HP Central) digging in

Rockingham Community College Baseball off to Solid Start (13-5, 7-1 conf)

The RCC baseball team swept conference foe New River at home this past weekend to push their conference record to 7-1. The early success lands RCC atop the Region X DII standings with a 2 game advantage in the win column over Catawba Valley CC and Lenoir CC both at 5-1.

In game 1 of the series on Saturday, RCC used a 9 run second inning to propel them to a 10-0 win. Devin Gaffney (McMichael HS) broke the game open with a 3 run triple in the RCC second. Tommy King (Greensboro Day) was also 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored. Kaleb Houchins (Eden Morehead) pitched a complete game allowing 3 hits and striking out 10 to run his record to 2-1.

In game 2 on Saturday RCC scored 8 runs on 7 hits in route to an 8-1 win. Will Greene (Rockingham County HS) got the start and went 4 innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 5 strike outs. His record is now 3-0 on the year. Tyler Pollard (West Stokes) pitched the final 3 frames scattering 3 hits and striking out 5 to earn his second save of the season. Austin White (South Stokes HS) led the charge offensively with a perfect 3 for 3 day and 1 RBI.
The series wrapped up on Sunday with RCC taking a 14-2 win. Dallas Baldwin (Burlington Williams) pitched a complete game running his record to 2-0 on the year. He allowed 3 hits, 2 runs, and struck out 6. Jordan Brown (Northeast Guilford HS) was 3 for 3 with a 3 run triple in the third inning that broke the game open for RCC. Gaffney and Hunter Bowles (Glenn HS) recorded 2 hits each.

RCC has several local players on the roster that are off to good starts this year.
Adam Gunn (Eastern Guilford): 386 avg with 12 RBIs
Houston Ison (High Point Central): 328 avg with 15 stolen bases
Andrew Brann (Bartlett Yancey): 280 avg with 1 home run
John Robertson (Eastern Guilford): 259 avg
Sean Henderson (Parkland): 338 ob% and 39 assists on defense
Evan Friddle (Southern Alamance): 0.00 ERA in 9.1 innings pitched
Jack Metcalf (Eastern Alamance): 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in 13 innings pitched
Up next for RCC is a mid-week contest on Wednesday at home against Averett University JV at 3pm. The team will travel to Raleigh next weekend for a 3 game conference series against Wake Tech starting on Saturday at Noon.

    Adam Gunn was at NC State in the fall? Did not realize he left.

    I talked to Adam’s parents earlier in the spring season and he was not intending to play baseball anymore but missed the game. He transferred over at mid-year. Great addition to the talented RCC team.
