Elon Men’s Soccer Announces Spring Schedule

ELON, N.C. – Highlighted by matches against three professional teams and dates with in-state rivals Campbell, UNC Pembroke and NC State, the Elon men’s soccer team released its 2013 spring scheduled, as announced by Phoenix head coach Darren Powell on Tuesday, March 12. Overall, the maroon and gold will play in seven contests during its spring slate.

“We have again put together a tough schedule for the spring season here at Elon,” said Powell. “We are excited to be challenged by two professional teams, a USL and a PDL team along with some quality college opponents from Campbell, Liberty, NC State and UNC Pembroke. All our players will get to test themselves against some of the best competition in the region.

“We are all looking forward to our first match since the fall when we play the Wilmington Hammerheads on April 6. Spring practices have been going very well and the guys are applying a few new ideas which we will work on throughout the spring and test in the upcoming games.”

Elon will host the Hammerheads at Rudd Field on Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m. Later that day, the Phoenix will take on Liberty at 4:30 p.m.

The maroon and gold will play in the ACC Showcase on Saturday, April 13, versus NC State at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C., at 3 p.m. Elon will host two matches on its home pitch on a week later, April 20, against Campbell and UNC Pembroke.

The Phoenix will conclude its spring competition versus the Carolina Railhawks on April 24 at WakeMed Stadium and against the Carolina Dynamo on May 3, at Bryan Park. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Two former players of the maroon and gold, Austen King and Nick Millington, are members of the Railhawks.
