College Baseball Final – Guilford 8, Lynchburg 1

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Guilford College’s baseball team defeated Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-foe Lynchburg College, 8-1, Wednesday.

The Quakers’ jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning, thanks to a Kent Peterson RBI single. Justin Pittman’s single to left field plated two, setting up Corey Wallace for an RBI double, the score 4-0 after the top of the third. Guilford scored another four unanswered runs, two each in the seventh and ninth. Lynchburg scored its lone run in the bottom of the ninth inning but were unable to tally any more.

Peterson went 3-for-3 for Guilford (9-8, 2-3 ODAC). Justin Pittman had two hits with four RBI in the win. Corey Wallace also had two hits. Drew Crawford (1-1) allowed only one earned run in 8.0 innings pitched, earning him his first win of the season. Crawford did not allow any one Hornets batter more than one hit.

Lincoln Evans crossed the plate for Lynchburg (9-8, 2-3 ODAC) when he scored on a double play. Five Hornets batters tallied hits. Jay Kenyon and Joe Rogers went 1-for-3. Trevor Johnston (2-1) claimed his first loss of the season, allowing five hits and two earned runs in five innings pitched.

The Quakers return to McBane Field Saturday, Mar. 16 when they play host to Virginia Wesleyan College in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
