Former Greensboro College women’s basketball player Heather Macy was recently recognized as the Conference USA Coach of the Year. A 2000 graduate of Greensboro College, Macy has been the head coach at East Carolina since 2010.

In her third season at the helm of the ECU women’s basketball program, Macy has guided the Pirates to a 21-8 overall record and a number two seed in the upcoming Conference USA tournament.

East Carolina was selected to finish 11th in the preseason conference poll but enters the tournament with the highest seeding in program history after recording a stellar 20-win campaign.

Macy has earned Coach of the Year honors four times in her coaching career – at Pfeiffer in 2006-07, at Francis Marion in 2007-08 and 2008-09, and now at East Carolina for the 2012-13 season.

Macy received a B.S. Degree in Sport and Exercise Studies (cum laude) from Greensboro College, where she was a four-year letterwinner on the basketball court. She ended her career 11th on The Pride’s career scoring list (707 points) and in the top ten for assists (207). In 2002, she earned a Master’s Degree in Human Performance and Recreation from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Macy and the Pirates will open Conference USA tournament play on Thursday, March 14 at the Tulsa Convention Center in Tulsa, OK. East Carolina will face the winner of number seven seed Memphis and number ten seed Southern Mississippi.
