HPU Women’s Track Opens Season at Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The High Point University women’s track & field team began the outdoor season with seven athletes competing in the Wake Forest Open on Friday in Winston-Salem, N.C. Action continues on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

In Friday’s track action, freshman Lilla Lorand was High Point’s top finisher in 26th in the 400-meter. She ran a time of 59.27. Freshmen Sara Katherine Kirkpatrick and Michelle Stolz placed 64th and 65th, respectively, and junior Kaitlin Whittington placed 73rd.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Stolz placed 30th overall in 16.80 seconds. Lorand took 32nd in 17.01 and freshman Stephanie Quinn placed 33rd. Freshman Emily DeLana placed 44th in the 100-meter dash preliminaries.

HPU’s only field event competitor of the day was freshman Erica Herrmann. She won the B-section of the high jump, clearing 1.58 meters (5-2.25).

The first event on Saturday is the javelin at 9 a.m. Freshmen Christine Rickert and Zoey Miller will compete in that event. Running events begin with the 4×100 relay at 11 a.m.
