College Softball Finals—Randolph-Macon 7—4, Guilford 0—3

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Cynthia Hayes (Seagrove, N.C./Southwestern Randolph) extended her season-long hit streak to 16 games as Guilford College fell twice to Randolph-Macon College Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets prevailed, 7-0, in game one while winning the nightcap, 4-3.

Hayes singled on her first at-bat to further the streak, finishing game one two-for-three. Sarah Cutright also led the Quaker offense, going two-for-three.

Randolph-Macon’s Madison Gilman started up the Yellow Jacket offense in the first innning with a two-RBI double. After Heather Lewis and Lauryn Nanny singled in a run a piece in the top of the second inning, Gilman added to her RBI total with a single to right field for her third RBI of the game.

Maggie Shaffer (1-3) threw two innings for the Quakers before Ashley Boteler relieved her, throwing five innings and allowing just four base runners. Lewis took the complete-game win for the Yellow Jackets, allowing six hits.

Randolph-Macon took an early game two lead thanks to a throwing error and a Jenna Best RBI double to left field in the top of the first inning. The Quakers responded in the bottom half of the inning when Calli Pasor knocked a two-RBI double into right center field. Both teams traded runs off of fielding errors to tie the game at 3-3. Gilman drove in the game-winning run for Randolph-Macon in the top of the seventh on a ground out to first base. Casey Snead singled into left field in the bottom half of the inning to load the bases before Lewis retired the Quakers.

Hayes went three-for-four in game two to extend her season-long hitting streak to 16 games, capping a five-for-seven day.

Morgan Myers (2-2) took the loss, throwing six and two thirds innings allowing only two hits and striking out four before Boteler relieved her to record the final out. Kristen Dize threw the first four and two thirds innings for Randolph-Macon before being relieved by Lewis (10-1), who picked up the game two win throwing the final two and a third shutout innings.

The Quakers travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. Tuesday to face Lasell College.
