Guilford College Track and Field News – Records Fall at Wake Forest Open

Norton Breaks 41-year old 3,000 Meter Record
Thomas Breaks 200 Meter Record

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Chad Norton broke the Guilford College’s 41-year old 3,000 meter run record in the Quakers’ second day at the Wake Forest Open.

Norton (8:52.77) broke the 41-year old 3,000 meter record held by Ken Bailey since 1972. Norton beat the previous record, converted from a two-mile run time, by 12.16 seconds. Not far behind, Andris Goncarovs set the second best time in school history with a time of 8:54.76. Norton finished sixth in the race and took the best Division III time in the field while Goncarovs placed seventh with the second best Division III time.

David Cason (Clemmons, N.C/West Forsyth) finished the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.21.

Cason, along with Yashua Clemons, Josh Farrar (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford), and Matthew McKeown posted a 4×400 meter relay time of 3:35.74.

C.J. Green led the Quaker sprinters in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.91 seconds.

Jennifer Thomas (Randleman, N.C./Randleman) broke the school’s 200 meter record with a time of 29.20 seconds, taking .36 seconds off her own previous school-best mark.

Rebecca Reyna (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) (2:36.48) took the school’s third best mark in the 800 meter run.

Guilford’s 4×100 meter relay team of Carlette Harper, Jasmine O’Neill (Winston-Salem, N.C./Parkland), Sydney MacDonald (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford), and Thomas set the new school mark with a time of 56.65 seconds.

The Quakers return to action next Friday and Saturday, March 22nd and 23rd, at the Vertklasse Meeting at High Point University.
