GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College junior Drew Crawford (Newport, Tenn./Cocke County (Milligan)) earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Pitcher of the Week Award Monday. Crawford also received the Guilford Student-Athlete of the Week Award, presented by the school’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Crawford, a 6-3, 190-pound right-hander, twirled an eight-inning gem in Guilford’s 8-1 win at Lynchburg College Mar. 13. In his first start as a Quaker, he scattered five hits, walked three and struck out four. Crawford allowed just one earned run in the longest outing of his career.
Crawford is 1-1 with a 3.94 earned run average over four appearances in his first Guilford campaign. He has eight strikeouts and five walks in 16 innings.
Coach Nick Black’s ’02 Quakers (9-11, 2-5 ODAC) entertain Lynchburg Tuesday (3/19) at McBane Field in the final game of the teams’ two-game series.
The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive and participation in Champs Life Skills, which promotes intercollegiate athletics as a key part of the campus educational program and the student-athlete as an integral part of the student body. Its aim is to increase student-athletes’ community involvement and to engage the greater Guilford community with the athletic department.
