GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College junior E’leyna Garcia set or tied three school records in Monday’s 22-10 lacrosse win over Catawba College. Garcia finished with 11 points on 10 goals and an assist in Guilford’s victory over the NCAA Division II Indians (2-6).
Garcia scored her seventh goal of the game two-tenths of a second before halftime, which gave the Quakers a 15-7 lead. It also marked her 147th career tally, besting the Guilford record shared by Jen Harrison ’91 and Summer Frazier ’12. Garcia added three second-half goals, matching her own school standard of 10 tallies in a game, set earlier this year in a win over Greensboro College.
Garcia’s 11 points equal the school record set by Mary Hutchins’ 08 versus the College of Wooster in 2007. Garcia now has an even 200 points on 150 goals and 50 assists in 42 career contests. She stands second only to Hutchins (226) among Guilford’s career points leaders.
Garcia scored four times during an 8-1 Guilford run over the first half’s final 12 minutes. The outburst changed a one-goal game into a 15-7 Quakers’ lead at intermission.
Guilford sophomore Eleanora Keene finished with a career-high five goals and set the school record for career draw controls. She had a season-high 14 draws in the game, three off her own school standard, and passed Frazier for first place among Guilford’s all-time leaders. Keene how has 187 draws in one-plus seasons, three better than Frazier. Keene also added an assist for a career-high six points, plus five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Guilford junior Lily Colley contributed a season-best nine points on four goals and five assists. Her twin sister, Becca Colley, had two goals, one assist, two ground balls and four draw controls. Senior Liza Mettler made three saves and had three ground balls in goal.
Freshman Meredith Jones led Catawba with four goals and an assist. Alyssa Corace, Ebony Mills and Chelsey Bauer each scored two goals apiece. Freshman Bethany Davis made 12 saves in goal and collected a team-high three ground balls.
Guilford returns to action Saturday (3/23) at Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)-rival Virginia Wesleyan College.
