SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon University men’s tennis junior Cameron Silverman has been named the Southern Conference’s Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played March 11-17. Silverman went 6-0 in singles and doubles play last week as the Phoenix earned conference wins over Davidson (6-1), Wofford (6-1) and Furman (7-0). Ranked No. 38 in the nation in singles play, Silverman closed the week with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Furman’s Andrew Mellow.
Teamed with Stefan Fortmann, Elon’s top tandem went 3-0. Silverman and Fortmann held off Davidson’s Joe Schafer and Ethan Kallick, 8-6, before topping Wofford’s Rob Galloway and Walker Heffron, 8-4. Elon’s No. 1 doubles team then closed the week with an 8-6 win over Furman’s Mellow and Joel Cook.
