College Baseball News – Guilford’s Hot-Hitting Wallace Named to D3Baseball.com Team of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College junior Corey Wallace (Rockingham, N.C./Richmond Senior (Southeastern C.C.)) was named to his second D3baseball.com Team of the Week Tuesday. Wallace also earned a spot on the website’s weekly honor roll March 5.

A 6-1, 185-pound infielder, Wallace was the team’s second baseman after hitting a team-best .625 in Guilford’s 2-2 week. He had at least two hits in all four contests, including three in a 12-10 win over Stevenson University Mar. 12. Wallace belted two homers, scored three times and had three RBI versus the Mustangs, which entered the game with a 10-2 record. He doubled twice and had an RBI in the Quakers’ 8-1 league win at Lynchburg College the following day. Wallace wrapped up the week with five hits in the Quakers’ doubleheader loss to Washington and Lee University Mar. 16, including three in the nightcap, one of which was his team-leading sixth homer of the year.

Wallace has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games, including six straight. His hot streak has raised his season average to .461, which ranks second in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). Through games of March 17, Wallace ranked fifth among NCAA Division III home runs leaders, fourth in slugging percentage and 13th in triples. He leads the ODAC with six homers, 35 hits, three triples, a .518 on-base percentage and a .829 slugging percentage.

Coach Nick Black’s ’02 Quakers take a 10-11 overall record (3-5 ODAC) into Saturday’s (3/23) ODAC doubleheader with Bridgewater, which begins at noon on Guilford’s McBane Field.
