Third Period Drought Drops Greensboro College Men’s Lacrosse 7-6

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The Greensboro College men’s lacrosse team (3-6 overall) was outscored 3-0 in the third period as Otterbein (4-2 overall) rallied for a 7-6 win.

The Pride rebounded from an early 1-0 deficit with five unanswered goals. Ryan McNamara and Ryan Kissner each scored in the first to put Greensboro on top 2-1.

Kissner found net twice to open the second half and push the lead to 5-1 with 2:34 to go in the half. The Cardinals rallied, scoring with 2:12 and 35 seconds left to pull to within 5-3 at half.

Otterbein took control with three goals in the third to grab a 6-5 advantage heading into the final frame. The Cardinals extended the margin to 7-5 with a goal at the 10:16 mark in the fourth.

McNamara drew The Pride back to striking distance with a score with 2:29 remaining. That was as close as Greensboro would get, as Otterbein ran out the final seconds for the 7-6 victory.

The Pride outshot the Cardinals 36-30 and forced 29 turnovers on the day. Otterbein, however, won 11 of 16 faceoffs and picked up 53 ground balls compared to 29 for Greensboro.

Kissner tied for a game high three goals with McNamara adding two. Maxx Aikenprovided the lone assist for The Pride. James Furlow picked up a team high five ground balls, while Jaeger Carlyle forced a team best three turnovers. Wyatt Clay, Tracey Armstrong, Grant Jeffries and Kyle Hughes each forced two turnovers apiece.

Greensboro will look to rebound on Saturday with a home date against Whittier. Game time is set for 12 p.m. on Pride Field.
