College Track & Field News – Norton, Flint Break Records at High Point University’s VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C.—Guilford College’s Rachel Flint and Chad Norton set new school records at Saturday’s VertKlasse meeting at High Point University.

Flint improved upon her own school record in the 400 meter dash, finishing with a time of 1:09.49 in the participation division of the race. Flint’s mark was the second best finish among Division III contestants.

Norton (4:23.41) broke the school’s mile run record by 1.2 seconds. With the mark, Norton set his second school record of the season and finished 11th in the race, the best Division III time in the field.

Andris Goncarovs (4:24.90) finished with the second best Division III time in the mile run, taking 16th place. David Cason (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) finished right behind Goncarovs with a time of 4:25.17.

Cason also finished with the second best Division III time in the 400 meter dash at 2:00.44, finishing 17th overall. Norton (2:00.99) finished .55 seconds behind Cason, the third best Division III time and 19th overall.

Kevin Tiller led Guilford’s sprinters in the participation division of the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.72 seconds.

Rebecca Reyna (Liberty, N.C./Southern Alamance) finished with the second best time in school history in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:10.57, the second best Division III time in the participation division.

Guilford’s 4×100 meter relay team of Karima Jackson (McLeansville, N.C./Eastern Guilford), Carlette Harper (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford), Sydney MacDonald (Greensboro, N.C./Western Guilford), and Jasmine O’Neill (Winston-Salem, N.C./Parkland) set a new school record with a time of 56.02 seconds in the performance division of the race, taking .63 seconds off the previous record.

Kaylea Trogdon (Archdale, N.C./Wheatmore) set a new school record in the Long Jump with a mark of 4.47 meters in the participation division.

Guilford returns to the track next Saturday at the Winston-Salem State Collegiate Invitational.
