Garcia, a 5-10 junior attacker, helped extend Guilford’s best start in school history to 7-1 with 17 goals and two assists in two victories last week. She tied the school records for goals (10) and points (11) in a game in Guilford’s 22-10 win over NCAA Division II Catawba College Mar. 18. Now halfway through the season, Garcia has a league-high 55 goals, two off the Guilford season goals mark she tied last year. Her ODAC-best 64 points stand fifth in school history. She owns the school’s career record with 157 goals and stands second in career points (208) and assists (51). Garcia ranked third among NCAA Division III scorers with 45 points and second in goals (38) through games of Mar. 17.

Drew Thompson 2015

Thompson shot 70-66-76-212 to place fourth among 160 golfers at the 42nd annual Marine Federal Credit Union Intercollegiate Golf Tournament at Camp Lejeune, N.C. His performance helped the 11th-ranked Quakers place sixth in the field of 32 teams. Thompson shot a career-low 66 in the second-round, fifth-lowest round in school history. His 36-hole score of 136 and his 54-hole total of 212 rank third and eighth, respectively, in school history. Thompson stands third in the league with a 75.1 strokes per round scoring average.

Coach Corey Maggard’s Quakers are ranked 11th in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll and ninth in the Mar. 20 Golfstat.com NCAA Division III Head-to-Head Rankings. Guilford plays in the Emory Spring Invitational April 1-2 in suburban Atlanta, Ga.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee, which is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams. The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and seeks to build community among the school’s student-athletes and non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a canned-food drive and participation in Champs Life Skills, which promotes intercollegiate athletics as a key part of the campus educational program and the student-athlete as an integral part of the student body. Its aim is to increase student-athletes’ community involvement and to engage the greater Guilford community with the athletic department.
