GC Women’s Lacrosse Beats Huntingdon for Fourth Straight Win

The Greensboro College women’s lacrosse team (5-8 overall) beat Huntingdon (6-5 overall) 11-7 on Wednesday for its fourth straight win. The Pride have also won five of their last six games.

Brittany Ziobro led Greensboro with six goals and two assists. Ziobro wasted little time getting to work with two goals in the first 3:47 to give The Pride a 2-0 lead.

Alexa Besch added a score at the 25:30 mark to push the margin to 3-0. The Hawks rallied back with two goals of their own to chip the deficit to 3-2 with 11:41 remaining in the half.

Greensboro came back with the final four goals of the period to head into the break leading 7-2. Besch and Kirstin Norris kicked off the run with two goals in a 36 second stretch around the 8:30 point, with Nadya Fedun and Ziobro finding net in the final minutes to cap the half.

The Pride continued to fire away in the second with Norris putting up the first goal of the half 5:48 in. Ziobro answered a Huntingdon goal with a score to make it 9-3 in favor of Greensboro.

The Hawks scored four of the last six goals of the game – with Ziobro contributing the final scores for The Pride – but never seriously threatened as Greensboro held on for the 11-7 win.

The Pride outshot Huntingdon 33-21, picked up 14 ground balls compared to nine for the Hawks, and forced 22 turnovers, while committing 14. Huntingdon won 13 of the 19 draw controls.

In addition to Ziobro’s six goals, Besch and Norris added one each with Fedun also getting in on the action with one. Kayla Gonzalez dished out an assist to join Ziobro’s two. Besch picked up a game high four ground balls and had two caused turnovers to go along with two by Norris and Melissa Townsend. Kaleigh Hemstock made nine saves in net to pick up the win.

Greensboro will be in action again on Friday at home against Methodist. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Pride Field.
