Elon Track & Field: Distance Harriers Prep For Raleigh Relays

ELON, N.C. – The distance members of the Elon women’s track and field team will compete this weekend at the Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State. The meet will kickoff on Friday, March 29, with the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Paul Derr Track and Field facility.

Last Time Out
The Phoenix last competed at the Wake Forest Open on March 15-16. Louise Prevoteau claimed the individual title in the women’s long jump on day two of the meet with a mark of 18’9.75”, second-best all-time in school history.

Throwers Charlise Morgan and Kimberlyn Holt both set school-records in the shot put and hammer throws, respectively, and placed in the top-five of their events. Morgan had a heave of 45’9” (13.94m) while Holt had a toss of 175’3” (53.42m).

Caroline McCaslin was one of three runners that placed in the top-five of the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the maroon and gold at Wake Forest leading the way with a time of 10:57.89 as the runner-up. Tereza Novotna (3rd, 11:04.33) and Emily Tryon (5th, 11:08.06) rounded out the top-five performers for Elon. McCaslin and Novotna ended with the third and fourth fastest times, respectively, on the program’s all-time performance list in the race.

In Competition for Elon
Elon will cover the majority of the distance events this weekend. Seven runners are attached to run in the 1,500-meter race with McCaslin, Novotna, Tryon, Jenny Gallagher, Brennan McDavid, Christine Pacewicz and Ellie Taff the participants.

In the 5,000-meter run, Sabina Bains, Erin Macbeth, Allyson Oram and Kylie Womack will represent the maroon and gold. Haylee Dawe will compete in the 10K race for the first time.

The women’s track and field squad will return to competition on April 5-6 with a group competing at the Duke Invitational and another selected group traveling to the Liberty Collegiate Invitational.
