Greensboro College Baseball Drops NewBridge Bank Home Game to Guilford

(GREENSBORO, N.C.) — The Greensboro College baseball team hosted cross-town rival Guilford at NewBridge Bank Park on Wednesday. The Quakers (12-13 overall) put up single runs in the second, third, and fifth innings to hold off The Pride (12-18 overall) 3-1.
Greensboro put up its lone run of the game in the bottom of the second on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Jordan Powell that scored brother Joshua Powell from third base. The run tied the game at 1-1.

Guilford answered with a run in the third in the fifth to regain the lead at 3-1. The Pride’s biggest opportunity to even the score came in the ninth, as Greensboro put runners on first and second base. The rally came up short, however, as the Quakers held on for the victory.

Guilford outhit The Pride 6-5 but committed two errors compared to none for Greensboro. Matt Irwin and Joshua Powell each recorded two hits apiece, while Cody York contributed the final hit of the night on a double in the ninth.

Steven Pfeiffer made his first appearance of the season and worked 4.0 innings in the loss. Pfeiffer allowed three hits and two runs. Kyle Zembsch, Hunter Jenkins, Daniel Longworth andBrandon Matthews all entered the game in relief.

Next up for Greensboro is a weekend home series with Maryville. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday at 1 and 4 p.m. at Leonard Park. On Saturday, The Pride will honor the 20th anniversary of the inaugural Pride baseball team.
