The Greensboro baseball team (12-20, 6-14 USA South) dropped a doubleheader to Maryville (14-15, 9-11 USA South) on Friday afternoon. The Pride fell 10-7 in the first game and 5-3 in the second game.

Maryville jumped out to the early lead in game one with a run in the first inning. The Scots extended the margin with two in the second, making it 3-0. The Pride got on the board in the bottom half of the second on a Jordan Powell ground out to cut the gap to 3-1.

The Scots, however, answered with two in the third, pushing the lead to 5-1. Greensboro fired back with two in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a James Feldmann double to right center to narrow the deficit to 5-3.

The Pride put two on the board in the seventh, tying the game at 5-5 on an error by the first basemen and a passed ball on the catcher. Bill Wooding tried to squeeze home the leading run but the runner was thrown out at home.

The Scotts responded with five runs in the ninth inning, taking a 10-5 lead into the bottom half of the inning before The Pride mounted a comeback. Feldmann singled up the middle to start the inning. Cody York walked to move Feldmann to second. A Wooding RBI single plated York, making it 10-6. Powell pushed the last run across, with an error on the first basemen. It was too little, too late, though as Greensboro came up short 10-7.

Both teams had 16 hits apiece. Matthew Parker and Feldmann led the way with three hits. Aaron Navarro, Matt Irwin, and Wooding had two hits each. Feldmann had a game high three runs batted in.

In game two, Maryville again jumped out to the quick lead with two runs in the first to make it 2-0. A run in the second and third innings pushed the lead to 4-0.

Greensboro cut the deficit in half in the fifth on an error by the shortstop during an attempted steal and an RBI groundout to the shortstop by Irwin to make it 4-2.

The Pride got the final run of the game in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Steven Pfeifer, cutting the lead to 4-3. Greensboro threatened in the ninth with runners on second and third and two hits when Kyle Willard singled to right field but Seth Caison was thrown out at home for the final out the game.

Kyle Schmidt, Willard, and York had two hits apiece to lead Greensboro in game two. Irwin and Pfeifer had one run batted in.

The Pride will look to rebound tomorrow in game three of the series against Maryville. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Leonard Park. Greensboro will be honoring their seniors and the 20th anniversary team before the game.
