College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 17, Bridgewater 7

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Lily Colley tied the Guilford College record with 11 points in the Quakers’ 17-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) lacrosse win over Bridgewater College Saturday afternoon. Her effort helped Guilford to its school-record eighth straight win, which extended the team’s best start (9-1) in school history.

Colley, a junior attacker, scored all of her game-high five goals in the second half. She also dished out a career-best six assists to match the school record for points in a game. Mary Hutchins ’08 set the mark in 2007 and Colley’s teammate, E’leyna Garcia, matched it 12 days ago with 10 goals and an assist in a win over Catawba College. Colley’s six assists rank third in school history.

Two of Colley’s helpers went to her twin sister, Becca, who scored a career-high five goals, all in the first half. Becca scored four times in the first 14 minutes, which sparked Guilford to a 6-1 lead. Bridgewater (3-7, 1-3 ODAC) answered with three straight goals before Becca Colley scored off a pass from her sister to give the Quakers a 7-4 halftime edge.

Garcia, the reigning ODAC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week and NCAA Division III leader in goals, contributed three tallies, five ground balls and six draw controls. Teammate Eleanora Keene had four points on three goals and an assist, plus six draws and four ground balls. Guilford’s Summer Fowler picked up a game-best seven ground balls and caused two turnovers. Senior Liza Mettler was solid once again in goal, making 10 of her 12 saves in the second half.

Alexa Miller and Paige Hennessy both scored twice for Bridgewater. Carli Bafford and Jordyn Hutchins both added two assists. Bafford also collected five draw controls and four ground balls. Goalie Laura Reynolds had eight saves and a ground ball.

The Quakers return to action next Saturday (4/6) against visiting Randolph-Macon College at 4:00 p.m.
