Faure Paces HPU Men’s Track at WSSU Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Junior Tristan Faure placed second in two events and third in another to pace the High Point University men’s track & field team at the WSSU Collegiate Invitational on Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C. Freshman Austin Miller won the pole vault.

“Tristan had a really good day, getting career bests in the pole vault, hurdles and javelin,” said HPU associate head coach Eric Dudley. “For him, his events were similar to the second day of the decathlon without the 1,500. The throwing events are still an ongoing project for Tristan, but he’s getting a technical understanding of all of them. This meet will really help as we push forward in Tristan’s quest for 7,000 points in the decathlon this season.”

Faure placed second in the 110-meter hurdles in 15.27 and took second in the pole vault with a height of 4.10 meters (13-5.25). He also took third in the javelin with a throw of 46.81 meters (153-7) and placed ninth in the discus with a distance of 34.33 meters (112-7).

Miller won the pole vault with a height of 4.40 meters (14-5) and freshman Harris Coley placed third with a height of 3.80 meters (12-5.5).

“Austin won the pole vault fairly easily,” said Dudley. “This meet comes at a perfect time in the season, three weeks before the conference championship. We were able to experiment with some technical tweaks in a low-pressure situation. Hopefully some of those tweaks will pay off later in the season.”

Freshman Jim Wilson placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 41.56 meters (136-4) and sophomore Christian Spaulding placed sixth at 39.91 meters (130-11). Spaulding is the current Big South Field Athlete of the Week after setting the HPU record last Saturday.

In the horizontal jumps, redshirt-sophomore Max Coleman placed sixth in the triple jump in his career debut in the event. He notched a distance of 12.63 meters (41-5.25). Freshman Will Narramore placed 10th in the long jump at 5.83 meters (19-1.5).

In the men’s 1,500-meter, freshmen Jeremy Lewis and Nick Davis placed 10th and 21st, respectively. HPU senior Jacob Smith, who is redshirting this season and competing unattached, won the event with a time of 3:52.35.

The Panthers also sent athletes to the Raleigh Relays at NC State on Friday and Saturday. HPU will compete at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational next weekend in Lynchburg, Va.
