The Pride baseball team (13-20, 7-14 USA South) defeated Maryville (14-16, 9-12 USA South) 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. Greensboro rode the arm of John Atkins, who threw six solid innings before Zach Royals came in to finish the game.
Greensboro took the early lead with a run in the third. Jordan Powell led the inning off with a walk. Matt Irwin singled to center field, moving Powell to second. James Feldmann singled to left field, scoring Irwin for the 1-0 lead.
The Pride extended the lead in the seventh inning. Aaron Navarro doubled to left field to lead off. Joshua Powell laid down a perfect bunt, moving Navarro to third. Jordan Powell plated a run on a ground out to the first basemen making it 2-0. Matthew Parker followed with an RBI single to left field, pushing Powell across for the final run of the game to win 3-0.
Atkins got the win pitching six innings allowing no runs on four hits. Royals came in and picked up the save throwing a no hitter during the last three innings.
Feldmann led the way with three hits. Irwin, Navarro had two hits apiece. The Pride outhit their opponent 10-4. Parker, Feldmann, Powell had one run batted in.
Greensboro will be back in action on Wednesday against Virginia Wesleyan. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Leonard park. The Pride will be honoring their seniors before the game.
