GC Men’s and Women’s Lose at Home to Piedmont

The Pride men’s and women’s tennis teams dropped a pair of key USA South matches at home on Saturday afternoon to Piedmont by identical 9-0 finals. The men are now 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the USA South, while the women are 2-8 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

The number one doubles team of Meredith Kelly and Elizabeth Adair battled to an 8-3 setback as Greensboro fell behind 3-0 heading into singles. In singles action, Adair lost a hard fought 6-4, 6-3 match to Erin Krause at number three, with the Lions closing out the match win with a 6-0 singles sweep.

The men also fell behind 3-0 following doubles, but came alive with two close three set losses and a near three set defeat in singles. Brett Graeser fell to Patrick Steck at three 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 after taking the first set. Matt Moscatello rallied from a first set loss against Trey Martin at five but fell 6-4 in a decisive finale. Matthew Troy lost set one to Joel Silverberg 6-0 at four and came up short of forcing a final set with a 7-6 (6) loss.

The men will be back at home on Tuesday for Senior Day at Grimsley High School, with the women returning to action on Thursday at Meredith.
