Rockingham Community College Retakes Control of Conference with Series Win Over Wilkes Community College

The RCC Baseball Team won its sixth consecutive conference series this weekend taking 2 out of 3 from WCC. The series win puts RCC back at the top of Region X Division II just past the halfway mark in conference play. RCC is now 21-10/14-3.

Game one on Friday: RCC 3 WCC 2.
Kaleb Houchins (Morehead) picked up the win pitching 8 strong innings allowing 2 runs (1ER) on 6 hits. He struck out 5 while running his record to 4-2 on the year. Evan Friddle (Southern Alamance) and Zack Wright (AL Brown) combined to pitch the ninth inning securing the win for the Eagles. Houston Ison (HPC) was 3 for 4 on the day while Jordan Brown (NEG) and Marshall Creed (Surry Central) had back to back RBI singles in the sixth that put RCC ahead 3-1.

Game two on Friday: RCC 5 WCC 10
WCC starter Logan Walden (South Point) quieted the RCC bats in game 2 pitching a complete game 4 hitter. Will Green (RCHS) suffered his first loss of the year. His record is now (5-1). Andrew Brann (BYHS), Hunter Bowles (Glenn), Sean Henderson (PHS), and John Robertson (EG) pic ked up the 4 hits for RCC. Note: Walden was part of the state championship team at South Point in 2011 that defeated NE Guilford in the state championship series.

Game three on Saturday: RCC 9 WCC 7
Brown came up big in Saturday’s series finally. He blasted 3 hits including a double and drove in 3 runs to pace RCC at the plate. Austin White (South Stokes) also contributed 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Dallas Baldwin (Williams) (5-0) notched his fifth victory of the year pitching 7.1 innings. He allowed 4 runs (3ER) on 8 hits. Tyler Pollard (West Stokes) picked up his third save of the year in relief.

The Eagles travel to Lenoir Community College in Kinston next weekend to take on the Lancers in a 3 game conference series.
