GC Men’s Tennis Outlasted by Roanoke 6-3

The Pride men’s tennis team (5-6 overall) opened doubles in a 3-0 hole after suffering two close setbacks, and fell to Roanoke (8-3 overall) in the end 6-3 on Tuesday.

Greensboro nearly took a 2-1 lead following doubles action. Kyle Gatti and Zach Passman were edged in the one spot 9-7, while Matthew Troy and Matt Moscatello were defeated 9-8 (2) in a tiebreaker at the second position.

The Pride hung tough in singles play, winning at the one, three and six spots to earn a 3-3 split. Passman notched a 7-5, 6-2 win at one, Brett Graeser was victorious 6-2, 6-0 at three and Ian Weiner rallied at six for a 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 win.

Prior to the match, Greensboro honored its lone senior, Matt Moscatello. Moscatello played a hard fought match at the fifth position in singles, falling 6-4, 7-5.

The Pride will hit the home courts for the final time this season on Wednesday against Roanoke. Match time is set for 2 p.m. at Grimsley High School.
