Elon Phoenix Track & Field to Compete in Meets at Duke and Liberty This Weekend

ELON, N.C. – The Elon track and field team will compete at two meets this weekend, April 5-6. A selected group of athletes will travel to Lynchburg, Va., for the Liberty Collegiate Invitational while the distance team will race at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.

Last Time Out
A few members of the Elon distance team ran at the Raleigh Relays last weekend, March 29-30, at the campus of NC State. The Phoenix had a number of breakout performances during the meet, including a couple of school records being set.

Haylee Dawe and Allysom Oram both established new program marks in the 10,000-meters and 5,000-meters, respectively. Dawe ran a time of 36:15.16 in the 10K race to beat the previous mark by nearly 15 seconds. Oram broke under the 17-minute mark with a program-best time of 16:59.38 in the 5K run, beating her former school-record time of 17:04.29.

Tereza Novotna, Caroline McCaslin and Emily Tryon ran the third, fourth and fifth fastest times in school history in the 1,500-meters with marks of 4:38.77, 4:38.84 and 4:39.17, respectively. All three would finish in the top-10 for Elon in the 130-person race.

Elon last competed as a full squad on March 15-16, at the Wake Forest Open. Throwers Charlise Morgan and Kimberlyn Holt both set school-records in the shot put and hammer throws, respectively, and placed in the top-five of their events. Morgan had a heave of 45’9” (13.94m) while Holt had a toss of 175’3” (53.42m).

The women’s track and field squad will compete in its final meet prior to the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships on April 13, at the Joe Hill Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
