Ragsdale faced Millbrook in the opening round of the Bobby Murray Invitational on Friday night in a game that was moved from the USA Training Complex in Cary to the Millbrook campus. The game had originally been scheduled for Thursday night in Cary, but rain forced a postponement and when the fields at the Complex needed some time to be worked on, not all of the games could be played on Friday at the original site.

Ragsdale got single runs in the first and second innings and then rode the pitching of starter Tim Ambrose and reliever Matt Horkey to pick up the 2 – 1 win. Niko Orfanedes led off the game with an infield single and moved to second when Ben Fischer coaxed a walk. After they both moved up a base on a sacrifice fly, Matt Horkey drove in Orfanedes with a single to right centerfield. In the second, Corey Brandenburg led off with a base hit, went to second on a wild pitch and was sacrificed to third on a bunt by Avery Hodges. He scored the game’s second run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ben Horkey. That was it for the Tigers. They did not get another hit off of Millbrook starter, Brian Nobles who was outstanding on the mound. The Western Carolina commit struck out 16 batters on the night and only allowed two walks.

On the Tigers side, Ambrose and Horkey kept the Wildcats in check. Ambrose worked out of a two on two out jam in the second by retiring the side on a strike out. When he got in another jam in the fourth when two runners got on on an error and a walk, Horkey came in two get the last two outs, only allowing one run to score.

Ragsdale faceD Raleigh Broughton today in Cary at noon. Another game will follow with the opponent and time being determined by the outcome of the other games being played.
