Not sure of the official name for our tournament this past weekend, but I have been calling it the Greensboro Grasshoppers/Southeast Guilford High Baseball Classic and it all came to a conclusion tonight at what now know is the, ‘NewBridge Bank Invitational’, at NewBridge Bank Park…
*****Only home run of the tournament came off of the bat of Bump Martin(McMichael) and it was a three-run shot to left field, in the top of the second inning, of the SEG game….*****

The Randleman Tigers take the title in the ‘Battle at the Bridge’…..In tonight’s Championship Game, Randleman defeated Wheatmore 4-2 in 8 Innings….

I can’t hold back, without a doubt, this was the best baseball that I had seen all season….Up until this tournament, I had been seeing blowout after blowout for the most part….We had 3-2 games, 3-1 games, 2-0 games, 4-3 games….It was crazy, they all were close….Even the 5-0 win by Southeast Guilford over Raleigh Leesville Road this morning, that game was close too….

Today we saw Southeast win the first game of the day and the final from the 10am contest was:Southeast 5, Leesville 0(WP:Cody Ezzell/LP:Sam Duncan)…Game Two today:Northern Guilford 3, McMichael 1(WP:Austin Coltrane/LP:Lucas Martin)…Game Three:Southeast Guilford 4, McMichael 3(WP:Will Greene/LP:John Hall)….Game Four:[Championship] Randleman 4, Wheatmore 2(WP:Gauge Gannt/LP:Cole Tickle)…..

*****So many pitchers going the distance picking up complete games in this tournament with Cody Ezzell(SEG), Austin Coltrance(NG), Will Greene(SEG) and Lucas Martin(McMichael) all throwin comlete games today….*****

In the Championship Game for Randleman….Tyler Walls goes 1-4…Easton Welch with a BB and a HBP and 2 rusn scored….Cody Trodgon 2-4 with 2 Doubles and 1 run scored…Cody Millikin 1-3, HBP and 1 run scored….Tanner Routh 1-4 with the game winning RB/2 RBI…Big single by Routh to scored both Welch and Trogdon in the Top of the 8th….Dekota Shaw 1-4…Trevor Clemons 2-4 with a Double…Logan Hussey 1-3….
*****Game-winning RBI by Tanner Routh and game winning run scored by Easton Welch…

Wheatmore hitting:Gareth McKee 1-4 with a Double and 1 run scored….Devon Holbrook 2-4 with 1 run scored/1 RBI…..Chase Saunders 1-4…Clint Marsh 2-4….Zac Lax 1-3….

(LHP)Christopher York got the start for Randleman, while Clint Marsh(RHP) was on the mound to begin to the game for Wheatmore….Raw numbers on the pitchers but York with 2 runs on 4 hits, 6 K’s and 1 BB……Marsh 2 runs on 6 hits, 3 K’s, 1 BB, 1 HBP…..

*****Northern Guilford Nighthawk headed to college to play baseball:Nighthawks’ Brandt Williams has committed to attend Florence Darlington, in South Carolina.*****

Sometimes I feel like an idiot when I hit one of those typos, but I love that one with Bump….

I know it was going to happen one day…All those typings of Bump Martin and one day Maury Wills son name would show up….

Bump Wills was a shortstop if I remember correctly and he played for the Texas Rangers back in the 1970’s….My favorite team for life the Rangers and I just knew one day Bump Martin would become Bump Wills, it just had to happen….

His(Bump’s) dad Maury Wills played for the LA Dodgers and was one of the best base-stealers ever…

We have probably gone over this one before, but I always love talking about…..Bump Wills was a great name and Bump Martin wears that Bump name well…..

Often the mound is referred to as the bump and maybe some type of connetion or connections there too…

Also didn’t Yogi Berra have a son named Dale Berra who got a shot at the majors….Nothing at all like his dad, but I think he got a shot….

It must be Wikipedia time by now…..

Great job in the tournament by all of the teams….This was the best one yet….
