College Baseball Finals – Guilford 9-2, Eastern Mennonite 4-11

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Daniel Stanley threw a complete game in Eastern Mennonite University’s 11-2 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball win over Guilford College Saturday. The win helped the Royals salvage a split of the league twinbill after the Quakers pulled out a 9-4 opening-game win in 12 innings.

Stanley (5-3) scattered seven hits and struck out seven to collect his team-leading fifth victory of the season. The Royals’ (14-15, 4-7 ODAC) offense supported the senior right-hander with six runs in the third that chased Guilford starter Will James (1-6). Eastern Mennonite tacked on four more in the fifth to open a 10-1 lead. Adam Posey went 4-for-5 with two RBI and Austin Oliver added four hits for the Royals. B.J. Mortimer went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI.

Kent Peterson had two of the Quakers’ seven hits in the nightcap. John Macon Smith and Justin Pittman had RBI.

Smith had three hits and scored the go-ahead run in the 12th inning of the opener on a Nathan Fulbright single. The Quakers broke a 4-4 deadlock with five runs in the 12th off a trio of Royals’ pitchers. Herc Ingels added his third hit of the game, a two-run double, in the inning. The outburst made a winner out of reliever Tyler Tuttle (4-1). Tuttle entered in the bottom of the ninth when Eastern Mennonite rallied from a 4-1 deficit to force extra frames. He twirled four scoreless innings and fanned four in his team-leading fourth victory. Fulbright finished with three RBI.

Posey pitched 10 innings for Eastern Mennonite and struck out nine. He also had two hits and walked twice. Mortimer had two more hits in game one, including a two-run double in the ninth off of Tuttle that tied the game.

The Quakers (14-17, 6-10 ODAC) visit league-rival Emory & Henry College Wednesday (4/10).
