GC Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Methodist

The Greensboro baseball team (15-21, 8-15 USA South) split with Methodist (16-18, 10-13 USA South) on Saturday afternoon. The Pride dropped game one 9-2, before taking the second game 3-2 with the help of a James Feldmann solo home run.

In game two, The Pride jumped out to the early lead with a run in the second inning. Steven Pfeiffer singled through the right side starting the inning off. Cody York single up the middle, moving Pfeiffer to second. Aaron Navarro loaded up the bases on an error by the third basemen. A Kyle Schmidt sacrifice fly scored Pfeiffer, making it 1-0.

Greensboro extended the lead with a run in the fourth. Feldmann singled up the middle to lead off and advanced to second on a passed ball. York moved Feldmann to third on a single through the left side. Kenny Graham plated Feldmann for the 2-0 lead on an RBI single to left field. The Pride looked to tack on more runs but left the bases loaded.

The Monarchs responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Methodist tied the game in the fifth, pushing a run across to make it 2-2.

With the score tied at 2-2 and two outs in the eighth, Feldmann connected on a solo home run as Greensboro held on for the 3-2 win.

The Pride outhit their opponent 9-4. York led the way with three hits. Pfeiffer and Feldmann had two hits apiece. Graham, Schmidt, and Feldmann had a run batted in. Kristopher Peeden got the win, pitching a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits.

Methodist jumped out to the early lead in the game one with three runs in the first to make it 3-0. The Monarchs extended the lead with three in the second, one in the third, and two in the fifth for the 9-0 lead.

The Pride got on the board in the eighth, posting two runs. Matt Irwin singled to left field to lead off the inning. Cody York singled down the right field line, advancing Irwin to third. James Feldman got the first run with an RBI single through the left side to make it 9-1. Christian Snider singled through the right side, pushing York across for the final run of the game, as Greensboro fell 9-2.

Feldmann led the way with three hits. Bill Wooding and Jordan Powell had two hits apiece. Snider and Feldman each had one run batted in.

The Pride will conclude the regular season tomorrow with the deciding game against Methodist. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
