College Baseball Final – Guilford 14, Emory & Henry 7

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Jordan Slate was 2-for-3 with three RBI in Guilford’s 14-7 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball win over Emory & Henry College Wednesday.

Kent Peterson’s triple to right center plated D.J. Phillips in the bottom of the first to put the Quakers on the scoreboard early. The Wasps stuggled in the first, allowing Guilford (15-17, 7-10 ODAC) two additional runs. Emory & Henry (8-22, 3-12 ODAC) quickly made up their two-error first inning by scoring three in the bottom half then retiring the Quakers’ next at-bat after three batters.

Slate homered to left center after a Corey Wallace RBI triple and Will Byrd sacrifice fly, putting the Quakers ahead, 7-3. Emory & Henry responded with a one-run homer by Connor Wise in the third and an Eric Houff RBI single in the fourth, decreasing Guilford’s lead by two, 7-5. Guilford scored it’s eighth run in the fifth when John-Macon Smith hit his fourth home run of the season. The Wasps had two sacrifice flies in the seventh but Guilford’s four-run fifth and three-run ninth sealed the deal.

The Quakers’ Charles Noble had three hits. Herc Ingles and D.J. Phillips each added two hits and two RBI. Lou Trosch (2-3) earned his second win on the mound for Guilford after 3.2 innings with no earned runs. Justin Morrison and Tyler Tuttle each pitched a zero-run, one-hit inning.
