College Men’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 16, Randolph 7

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Adam Fiore (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) scored a game- and career-high seven points in Guilford College’s 16-7 road lacrosse win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Randolph College Wednesday night.

Fiore, a freshman attacker, tallied three goals and four assists, also game highs. He was one of nine different goals scorers for Guilford (7-5, 2-3 ODAC), which won its second straight league game. Fiore’s first goal came 4:53 into the match and triggered a decisive 4-0 run that snapped a 1-1 tie. Guilford’s Daniel Hughey scored at the end of both the first and second quarters, which helped the visitors to a 7-3 lead.

Guilford outscored the WildCats (5-8, 2-4 ODAC), 6-1, in the third quarter and never looked back. Fiore had two assists in the frame and added two fourth-period goals. His seven points mark Guilford’s highest single-game total this year and the most by a Quakers’ rookie since Mark Fiore (no relation) had eight points versus Marietta College in 2002.

Guilford’s Hughey collected four points with two goals and two assists. Juquan Tellis, Nick Mann, Daniel Haupt and Chandler Zirkle each tallied twice in the Quakers’ second-highest scoring game of the season. Trey Atkinson picked up six ground balls and Duncan Fitzgerald grabbed five, thanks in part to wins on seven-of-eight face-offs. Thomas Deane played all by 5:34 of the game in goal and made five of the team’s six saves. Guilford went 23-for-23 in clear attempts.

Stephen Allman led Randolph with two goals. Andrew Risse also had two points with a goal and an assist. Brian Crosby won 10 face-offs and was one of four WildCats with four ground balls. Goalie Cam Davis also had four pickups and made eight saves.

The Quakers visit Randolph-Macon College Saturday (4/13) at 3:30 p.m. in an ODAC game.
