Elon Track and Field Treks to Joe Hilton Invitational

ELON, N.C. – The Elon track and field team will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., to compete in the Joe Hilton Invitational on Saturday, April 13. The single-day meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the hammer throw at Belk Track and Fetzer Field.

The maroon and gold will compete in its final outdoor competition of the regular-season prior to the 2013 Southern Conference Championships next weekend, April 20-21, in Statesboro, Ga.

Last Time Out
The Phoenix last competed at the Liberty Collegiate and Duke Invitational on April 5-6. Three new school-records were set between the meets as well as an individual title. Freshmen Megan Kirschling and Caroline McCaslin each etched their names in at the top of the performance list in the high jump and 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively. Kirschling cleared the bar at 5’7.25” (1.71m) to claim the title at Liberty and break her previous school-record of 5’7” (1.70m).

McCaslin clocked in a time of 10:34.87, besting the previous school-mark by nearly 20-seconds, and finished fifth overall in the event. McCaslin was awarded as the SoCon Outdoor Track Performer of the Week on Wednesday, April 10, as her time is the best in the conference this season and currently 24th on the NCAA East Regional list.

Thrower Suzanne Martin established a new school-record in the javelin throw on the opening day at the Duke Invitational. Martin had a throw of 138’11” (42.35m) and finished as the runner-up in the event.
