College Women’s Lacrosse Final – Guilford 17, Marymount (Va.) 11

ARLINGTON, Va. – Lily Colley scored six goals and two assists in Guilford College’s 17-11 nonconference lacrosse win at Marymount (Va.) University Sunday afternoon. NCAA Division III goals and points leader E’leyna Garcia added four scores as the Quakers (13-1) ran their winning streak to a school-record 12 straight games.

The visiting Quakers were coming off a 17-4 league win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference co-leader Shenandoah University less than 24 hours earlier. The Saints jumped out to a two-goal lead Sunday before Colley sparked Guilford’s rally.

The Quakers outscored Marymount, 8-2, over the final 13:30 of the first half. Colley scored three times in that stretch, including one with nine seconds remaining that gave Guilford a 9-5 halftime lead. Her twin sister, Becca, netted two of her three scores in that time.

Guilford extended the run by scoring three of the second half’s first four tallies. Garcia’s second goal of the game opened a 12-6 lead. She scored consecutive goals 15 seconds apart later in the half to give the Quakers their biggest margin, 17-9, with 4:50 left in regulation.

The Quakers held a 33-27 edge in shots and collected 24 of the game’s 44 ground balls. Guilford’s defense held Marymount to 11-for-22 clearing and forced 23 turnovers. Summer Fowler picked up a game-high five ground balls and caused two turnovers. Liza Mettler made 10 saves in goal, six in the first half, and also had four ground balls.

Taylor Johnson paced Marymount with three goals. Jacki Belker added two goals and an assist. Kiki Niebuhr stopped 13 shots in goal and caused a turnover.

The Quakers return home to host Roanoke College Wednesday (4/17) at 4:00 p.m. in an ODAC matchup.
