GTCC Titans split with Sumter

The GTCC Titan baseball team split a double header with visiting USC-Sumter on Saturday. The split runs the Titans’ overall record to 18-17 and 11-11 in conference play.

Game 1 saw the Titans take advantage of 2 Fire Ant errors in the bottom of the 6th inning to score a single run and edge Sumter by a final score of 3-2. Tyler Coan drove in 2 runs for the Titans. Brandon Burkes, Carlos Alegria, and Edwin Soto each had hits for the Titans. Garrett Hickman threw 6 solid innings for the Titans to pick up the win. Ty Powell threw a scoreless 7th inning to secure the win and pick up his 7th save of the season.

USC Sumter exploded for 6 runs in the top of the 6th inning and the Titans could never get the bats going in an 8-0 loss. TJ Wharton had 2 of the 4 total hits for the Titans.

The Titans return to action on Sunday as they host USC-Sumter in double header action in the final home games of the 2013 season. Games will be played at Ragsdale High School and the first pitch as it 1:00.
