College Baseball Final – Guilford 21, Emory & Henry 4

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Danny Ditota had five hits in Guilford College’s 21-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) baseball win over visiting Emory & Henry College Tuesday. The Quakers’ 21 runs represented the most runs in a game this year and is the most Guilford has plated in a conference game since it scored 21 runs in 2006 against Eastern Mennonite University.

The Quakers (17-18, 8-10 ODAC) had a 4-1 lead in the third inning, due in part to Kent Peterson’s two-run double in the bottom of the second. Guilford expanded its lead with a six-run fourth inning, including back-to-back-to-back RBI doubles. Nathan Fulbright had a two-run double followed by Corey Wallace’s seventh homer that plated three in the fifth. Guilford had solidified its lead, ahead 15-3. The Quakers out-hit the Wasps, 23-10.

Nathan Fulbright was 4-for-4 with six RBI. Peterson was also a perfect 4-for-4, tallying four RBI. Corey Wallace had three hits and drove in six. Herc Ingels added three hits. John Macon Smith was 2-for-3, including an RBI double in the fourth. Dylan Clark (2-1) allowed three earned runs on five hits in five innings.

Eric Houff led Emory & Henry (8-25, 3-15 ODAC) with two hits and two RBI. Bransen Christopher added two hits. Chase Kirk and Mark Robertson each had one RBI. Ty Hill (2-4) allowed eight earned runs and 14 hits in 3.1 innings.

The Quakers hope to even their overall record with a win at Methodist University tomorrow, Apr. 17, at 7:00 p.m. The team returns home for its final home stand of the season in a doubleheader against ODAC-foe Randolph-Macon College beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Edgar McBane Field.
