College Track and Field News – Guilford Competes in ODAC Championships This Weekend

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Guilford College’s men and women’s track and field team are set to compete in the 2013 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships April 19-20. Washington and Lee University hosts the event in Lexington, Va.

Quakers’ junior David Cason, the ODAC defending champion in the 3000-meter steeplechase, set the ODAC record in the event this spring (9:18.71) at the Duke Invitational. He also ran the ODAC’s third-best mile (4:25.17) and fifth-fastest 5,000-meter run (15:11.34). Guilford junior Chad Norton owns the league’s top times in two events this season. He ran fastest mile March 15 with a 4:23.41 and the best 10,000 a week later with a 31:57.48. The runner up in the 2011 ODAC’s 5,000-meter outdoor race, he had this year’s third-fastest time (14:55.61) among league harriers. Junior teammate Andris Goncarovs posted the loop’s second-best clocking in the mile (4:24:90) and the 5,000 (14:59:46). Senior Joshua Farrar ran a 49.67 400-meter dash at the Winston-Salem State Collegiate Invitational, which is the third-fastest ODAC time this year.

On the women’s side, freshman Rebecca Reyna ran the ODAC’s fifth-fastest 3000 steeplechase at the Wake Forest Open with a time of 12:39.88. Sophomore Emily Cash’s time (13:30.08) in the same event two weeks later is ninth-best. Freshman Karima Jackson has set school records this year in the 100- (13.34 seconds) and 200-meter dash (28.81).

In the 2012 ODAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Guilford’s men finished sixth and the women did not score. The Quakers’ men had their best ODAC Championship finish (4th) in 2011. The Quakers’ highest women’s finish is seventh.
